COL Thomas L. Tate, Ed.D. (USA Retired) joins NMMI with more than 30 years of experience in organizational leadership, to include 10 years of service in military colleges and schools as a vice president of student affairs and commandant of cadets as well as a president and superintendent at a military prep school.
COL Tate is a visionary who incorporates traditional student development theories and models into a deliberate and holistic approach to advance student success. His major areas of emphasis include operational and strategic planning, leadership, character development, student accountability, responsibility, residence life, wellness, community outreach and partnerships. He is also skilled and competent in enrollment management, fundraising, curriculum development, and regional accreditation and reaffirmation.
COL Tate is a fiscally-responsible leader with a proven track record of managing budgets ranging from several thousand to several million dollars. His prior service as an educational administrator and instructor include his 27-year career in the United States Army, to include duty as a professor of military science at the Florida Institute of Technology.
COL Tate holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Alabama, a Master of Science in International Relations from Troy University and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Auburn University.
COL Tate served as the President and Commandant of Cadets at Howe Military Academy in Howe, Indiana. He served as the Vice President and Commandant as well as the Director of the Center for Leadership and Career Development at Marion Military from 2008 to 2016. He was the Professor of Military Science at Florida Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Florida from 2000-2004.
COL Tate served his country by means of the United States Army from 1981 to 2008 as a commission officer obtaining the rank of Colonel where he was responsible for the operational success of elite special operations forces, civic action teams, strategic information teams, and strategic planning elements.
