NMMI Educational Field Trip To Texas Tech
Cadets and faculty from New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) visited the Oil Field Facilities of the Petroleum Engineering Department at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. This educational field trip provided NMMI cadets with an invaluable hands-on experience in petroleum engineering, expanding their understanding of the field’s technical and operational aspects.
Upon arrival, the cadets were welcomed by Texas Tech faculty and introduced to various facilities dedicated to petroleum engineering and practical applications. They toured the drilling labs, production facilities, and simulation areas where students and professionals alike gain hands-on experience with oil and gas extraction techniques. Texas Tech staff demonstrated advanced equipment and techniques used in modern petroleum operations, including simulators that replicate real-life drilling scenarios, thus allowing cadets to see the industry’s technological advancements up close.
The visit emphasized the importance of petroleum engineering in the global energy sector and highlighted potential career paths within this field. Cadets engaged in discussions on current industry challenges, including environmental and safety considerations in drilling operations, making the experience both educational and relevant to real-world applications.
NMMI and Texas Tech faculty expressed hopes that this partnership would continue, offering cadets further opportunities to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers. This field trip not only enhanced the cadets’ academic knowledge but also fostered a deeper understanding of the petroleum industry’s role in today’s economy.
