A look inside NMMI’s Forensic Science Experiment “Marking and Dusting of Money Bills”
Under the expert guidance of Maj. Beaune Villaraza, the cadets enrolled in Forensic Science II conducted an experiment titled “Marking and Dusting of Money Bills”. This hands-on exercise demonstrated the critical role of forensic science in entrapment operations where marked currency serves as vital evidence.
During the experiment, cadets meticulously marked the bills with UV invisible markers and applied UV powder to simulate real-world conditions. They then staged a mock entrapment operation, showcasing the practical application of forensic techniques to trace evidence transfer.
As part of their analysis, cadets examined both the marked money and the recipient’s hands under UV light, successfully demonstrating the transfer of UV powder to the suspect. This compelling experiment not only enhanced their understanding of forensic science but also underscored its importance in strengthening evidence collection in criminal investigations.
Such immersive and innovative training underscores the value of integrating science into law enforcement practices, preparing cadets to excel in real-world scenarios where precision and expertise are paramount.
